Senator Barack Obama is getting beat up in the conservative press for attending Trinity UCC Church in Chicago, where The Rev. Dr. Jeremiah Wright, Jr. has cultivated a politically active and unashamedly Afrocentric ministry (read NYT article here). This makes me sick and angry on many levels . . . and yet it is this same (white, Christian) conservative movement that decries any attack on their faith as bigoted, hateful, and un-American. I guess it's ok to pick on black faith but not white faith.
42 years after Selma, yet so much more to do.
